This salt fired bowl by Karen Newgard is 11″ in diameter and 3 1/2″ tall. She throws her pots on an English style tread wheel. Once the form is “bone dry”, she brushes terra sigalatta with stain on to the pot. She carves through the terra sigalatta with a small loop tool, then bisque fires the piece. She adds glaze later and then fires it to over 2300 degrees fahrenheit in a salt fired kiln.
