About Kyanite: The name Kyanite derives from the Greek word kyanos, meaning blue. Kyanite has a deep silvery blue similar to blue sapphire at its best. Kyanite is an interesting gem that was discovered during the nineteenth century. Kyanite is found in mountainous regions in the United States (Montana and North Carolina), Switzerland, Brazil, and Myanmar. It was once believed that a kyanite suspended from human hair could follow the earth’s magnetic force. Early travelers sometimes used it as a compass when exploring unknown territories.
